Bougies zijn onderdeel van alle ottomotoren in alle modellen van VW en worden altijd direct of indirect door de bobine van hoogspanning voorzien. Zij zijn niet met de gloeibougies voor dieselmotoren te verwisselen, die de brandstof moeten voorverwarmen. Aan de bougie springt bij een temperatuur tot wel 1000°C de ontstekingsvonk over, waarbij brandsporen zich vaak niet laten vermijden, die dan weer tot slijtage leiden, ook wanneer de bougie over een zelfreinigend vermogen beschikt. Oudere VW-modellen hebben nog bougiekabels en ontstekingsverdelers, terwijl vandaag de dag een bobine direct op een bougie wordt geplaatst. Nieuwe bougies moeten altijd precies bij het model passen. Ze zijn zoals alle andere slijtageonderdelen in onze online shop zeer voordelig te verkrijgen.
